1976 bmw 2002

Future m20b25 turbo Swap

The exterior featured an Ireland Engineering wide-body along with VTO wheels. Unfortunately, that’s all that good that can be written regarding the outside of the car. The wide-body was hand-painted using a paintbrush and black paint (not joking) and the hood was stripped to bare metal.

The 1976 2002 m20 build was purchased in June of 2020 from South Dakota. The car was originally built for autocross using a standard 2002 m10 motor with an upgraded 292 camshaft, Mikuni side-draft carburetors, 240 Getrag 5-speed, a 3.91 LSD, turbo style exhaust, struts, sway bar, Ground Control coilovers with Bilstein shocks/struts, upgraded disk brakes, and rear mounted battery.

The interior had Cobra RSR seats, aftermarket steering wheel, and a dash-cap covering a rough original dashboard.

The Work Begins…

One bored summer, I decided to give the car a 10-foot paint job. I sanded the car using a common orbital sander. I purchased all of the Rustoleum primer and grey spray paint from the local Home Depot for a month straight. After some primer and paint, the car looked okay enough drive around and not have people think I was there to steal the rims off their cars…

… and of course, the dog helped.

After 1.5 years of having the car, I decided to purchase an m20b25 motor in January of 2022. The motor came from a company that pulled it to make a drift car with only 78,000 miles on it. To go with the m20, a 260 Getrag 5-speed transmission was bought along with the 3.73 LSD off a 325is.

The motor is being pulled apart and will be rebuilt to create a 3.0L 6 cylinder turbo motor and installed using 2002 Underground’s mounting platform.

Follow for updates on this build.
